The lawsuit that Jaden Rashada has filed against Billy Napier, Florida boosters is a bad look for The University of Florida football. NIL has been great for the game, rewarding players as it should and helping teams be more competitive by having access to top-tier players.
You might as well write "allegedly" all over this because it is one-sided at the moment.
Jaden Rashada was a 4-star recruit and committed to the University of Miami for a reported NIL deal of $9 million over four years.
Enter the University of Florida, desperately needing to make some movement after a few years of not much positive coming off the field. Florida didn't want to lose Rashada to their in-state rival, so they offered Rashada a deal reportedly worth $13 million to decommit from Miami and sign with Florida on National Signing Day, and he would get $500K as a signing bonus two days after National Signing Day.
Rashada flipped his commitment from Miami to Florida, but when he was supposed to receive his signing bonus, he actually received a letter saying his contract was terminated.
Allegedly, behind closed doors, Billy Napier, the Florida head coach, vouched for the boosters, telling Rashada they were good for the money. After originally holding out on signing with Florida, Rashada signed his letter of intent based on Napier's word.
Rashada never received any money through the NIL deal. He got out of the letter of intent with Florida, transferred to Arizona State, and now has joined the team at Georgia.
However you look at this story, Florida looks like it can't be trusted, and that will hurt them in recruiting.
